Description
There are two cooperatives in the mountainous community of El Roblar, who offer a variety of ecologic and collaborative activities to the visitors. There are a lot of activities, the most interesting ones are the tour, where they show and explain the production of different cultivations (including coffee), and a hike to the mountains hills lower than 750 meters from where you visitors can enjoy the gorgeous panoramic views.
One of the cooperatives is El Privilegio, which is formed by a group of worker women, who show the visitors the steps of the cultivation of coffee, vegetables, corn and beans. Here, the hosts can offer It is also possible to take natural medicine classes here (to the visitor classes of natural medicine (prices among US$45 and US$100 per group).
The second cooperative is called “Daniel Téllez Paz”, whose members are dedicates dedicated to itself cultivation of to organic and traditional coffee cultivation. Here, the visitors guests can learn about the differences between growing coffee without chemicals and growing coffee in a conventional way.
A hike leading to the mountains and three beautiful viewpoints starts at the community. From the community starts a hike to the mountains until 3 beautiful viewpoints. Hikers can breathe pure mountain air and admire the gorgeous views of the surroundings. This hike is accompanied by local guides; each guide can attend groups up to 7 people (prices among US$15 and US$20 per group).
There are also cultural presentations realized by the community, and it is furthermore possible to practice horseback riding or learn how to prepare traditional Nicaraguan dishes (prices among US$45 and US$100 per group). The houses in the community have additional rooms for visitors (prices among US$10 and US$15 per person/day), who can share the rustic mountainous life with the farmers. Food is served in the houses (prices among US$3 and US$5 per plate).
Other activities in this area organized by UCA San Ramón are ecologic and collaborative tourism in the communities of La Pita, La Reina and La Corona and a visit to the Beneficio Solcafe in Matagalpa.
Getting There
El Roblar is located at 35 kilometers from Matagalpa and can be reached by public bus. To realize a visit to this community, visitors should contact the organization UCA San Ramón at least 24 hours in advance.
