Description
The Ometepe island, located in Lake Nicaragua, features a destination with this profile: Finca El Zopilote. When visiting the farm, tourists will be able to organize tours around constructed wetlands, vegetables gardens, herbs spirals and bamboo constructions. They will also observe a bricks-wood oven, compost and composting systems, among other practices of Permaculture.
A Permaculture farm functions as an ecosystem that combines, in a respectful and sustainable way, the life of human beings, animals and plants. With this system, all the necessities of its components are guaranteed.
Generally, the tours around El Zopilote last two hours with a US$30 rate for a group of eight people. The goal of the tours is to explain visitors about the conceptual design and daily maintenance of a Permaculture farm, so people can understand the importance of it.
Getting There
Finca El Zopilote is situated 350 meters East from the Santa Cruz village, in the Maderas volcano. It's two kilometers away from Santo Domingo and five from Merida. There are severals buses and taxi drivers taking tourists to Finca El Zopilote during the day.
