We just got back from Juquilillo after spending a week on the beach at Monty's Beach Lodge with our photo group.

The beach is pristine. Very clean. At low tide, there was a few hundred feet of beach which was used by locals as the highway. We saw motorcycles, quads, horses and all sorts of other transport use the beach.

In the morning, cows use the beach to move from farms to grazing areas. It was fun to watch the cows walk down the road past Monty's Beach resort, onto the beach and away. At night they would return.

Not sure if the surfing is good but there was a good number of people taking up the opportunity to borrow a board and head out. Bartender taught lessons in the am and a few of us did that too.

Beach is clean. Sandy... and good surf. Sunsets are spectacular too

Description

Jiquilillo is perhaps the longest beach of the Pacific, and one of the most visited during Holly Week. Before and after that, the place is very peaceful and cozy, perfect for relaxing days.

Even though this beach is part of the Estuary Padre Ramos Natural Reserve, its inhabitants are mainly fisherman.

There are several restaurants and rustic accommodation for visitors.

Getting There

This beach is located 40 kilometers away from the city of Chinandega. On a private vehicle, you must reach El Viejo city and take the road to Potosí. You will get to the crossroads that will lead you to Jiquilillo and Padre Ramos (there is a sing).

In public transportation: After arriving in Chinandega, take a bus to El Viejo. From there, take another one to Jiquilillo in the market.
