Description
Located in the town of Catarina (Masaya), this center allows national and foreigners to learn and enjoy the natural and cultural richness of the Apoyo Lagoon Natural Reserve, one of the oldest natural formations in Nicaragua.
This is the first place in the area where one can organize hikes through the different trails of the reserve, and observe first hand the flora, fauna, (geología) and culture of this tourist destination.
In addition, the staff is trained to take care of each type of visitors, specially scholars. There are dynamic exhibition and video rooms where kids and adults learn about the natural and human elements of the reserve, and the importance of its conservation.
Note:
It is necessary to have certain physical condition and resistance in order to hike the trails of the reserve. However, the staff also offers short and entertained hikes for families and the possibility to provide transportation.
Getting There
When in Managua, take the Carretera a Masaya and turn right once you get to the 'Las Flores' roundabout. Continue until reaching the entrance to the town of Catarina. The exact adress of the center is the following: Three blocks South from the East side of the catholic church.
If you are coming from the town of San Juan de Oriente, the adress is: main entrance of the town, 1 block North, 1 block East. Old train station.
