Today, Saturday, November 24, the Concepción Volcano at Ometepe Island started a new series of explosions and gas expulsions.

Activity started around noon with minor gas eruptions followed by two moderate explosions in the crater of the volcano, according to the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER). A stronger gas expulsion followed, with the volcanic material being deposited in several communities of the island.

Currently (7:00PM) the activity has significantly diminished but INETER will keep monitoring the volcano and report on any changing events.
