Cleaning day of Apoyo Lagoon evaluation

Members of the different organizations that participated in the first cleaning day of Apoyo Lagoon, which took place last November 29 and 30th, gathered yesterday in order to make a final evaluation of the event and also to give recognitions to people involved it in.According to the ecologist, Fabio Buitrago, the cleaning day had two goals that were successfully accomplished and even exceeded expectations. The first one was to call Nicaraguan citizens and tourist through the local media and the second was to collect as much trash as possible. Thanks to the event, 5 big trucks were filled with trash.
In addition to the final evaluation, organizers gave prizes to people that sent pictures to the photography contest which slogan was "Together for Apoyo, let's save the lagoon". The contest had two winners:
Ernesto Hellmund.
Massiel Mora.
Both of them received a handicraft piece from San Juan de Oriente artisans, Clara Gaitán and Juan Boza Gutiérrez.
Now that the cleaning day has been classified as successful, the organizers pretend to do more of them. Fabio Buitrago announced that the next one is going to be on March 14 and 15, 2009 at Xiloá lagoon, in Managua. Organizers expect to have 5 times more garbage than in Apoyo Lagoon because it has been abandoned for 10 years.
