With the objective of showing the Nicaraguans as they are, through images and sounds, a new edition of Ícaro Festival was held, from September 23 to 30. The activity is a regional event that has been screening the cinematography pieces of Central American filmmakers for 12 years, and specifically six in Nicaragua. Martha Clarissa Hernández, Nicaraguan filmmaker and organizer of the event, explained that films, as well as nominated and winner videos of Ícaro Festival 2008, were screened until September 30 in different establishments of the country.

The Nicaraguan filmmaker also stated that one innovation of this festival was the presentation of three animation pieces by the Nicaraguan Ricardo Huezo. In addition, this is the second occasion in which Nicaragua makes a competition so that its filmmakers can participate in the regional festival of Guatemala. A total of 30 films, made by 14 national directors, competed in seven categories.

Hernández explained that the event was divided in two parts. One was the selection of the films for the competition and, the other one, the screening of nominated and winner videos and movies of Ícaro 2008. According to the organizer, a sovereign jury, constituted by the Nicaraguan Ramiro Lacayo, the Guatemalan Eduardo Cáceres and the Swedish Lars Built, were responsible of choosing the winner films of the competition in Nicaragua, which will compete in the regional festival in November.
