The celebration of World Tourism Day in Nicaragua took place at the indigenous community of Sutiaba, which is located in the neighborhood of the same name, situated in the colonial city of León. The event was held on Saturday, September 26 and on Sunday 27, with a great number of activities. Conferences, handicrafts and Art pieces exhibitions, a gastronomic fair, artistic performances by locals and foreigners, a living museum of myths and traditions, a parade, among others, were part of this event.

The announcement of this activity was made during a press conference in Managua, in which authorities from the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR), the World Tourism Organization (OIT), the mayorship of León and the community of Sutiaba participated. The slogan of this year´s celebration was "Tourism, enshrining of cultural diversity".

Mayra Salinas, Vice president of INTUR, explained that organizers chose Sutiaba as headquarters of the event because it is an ancestral community that has to be nationally and internationally highlighted, taking advantage of the benefits of exchanges and the projection that tourism brings to Nicaraguan sites.
