I Ecological Fair in Masaya

The township of Masaya, situated in the department of the same name, in the Pacific side of Nicaragua, will celebrate for the first time an ecological fair. Institutions and other entities related to the preservation of the environment will participate in this activity. The event, which will be held on Monday, October 5 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, will include a recycling contest for schools, a cultural show and an exposition with topics concerning the environmet and its protection.

Álvaro Gutiérrez Franco, coordinator of the event along with Zenelia Guido, explained that the main objective of the fair is to promote the Nicaraguan creativity, specially from kids and teenagers, through recycling and Art. According to Guitiérrez, the activity had the support of local institutions such as the municipality of Masaya, the Ministry of Education (Mined), and others.

According to the activity program, provided by the coordinator of the event, the recycling contest had the participation of students from nine schools of the township, both from the urban and the rural areas. Students sent their sculptures, paintings, drawings, and other pieces, which were related to the eco theme, so they could compete for the first three spots. The official announcement and exhibition of all the pieces will take place on the same day of the fair.

In addition, the cultural show will include the presentation of the queen of the equestrian festivities of Masaya, folkloric group performances, musical bands, among others. Moreover, the eco theme expositions will have the exclusive participation of the specialist in solid waste, Michael Hunh.

This first fair, which slogan is "Por la limpieza de Masaya, unidos todos y todas", will be an annual event. "Next year, it will also have a variety of topics.
