The first of six fairs that the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) will organize during 2010 will take place, on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st, in the city of Estelí, in the department of the same name, located in Northern Nicaragua. The First Northern Regional Fair will show national and international tourists the great number of tourist destinations, cuisine, handicrafts, dances, music, among other attractions, that the five departments of North Nicaragua have.

José David Barrera, Chief of the Press and Public Relations Department of INTUR, said that the purpose of the event is to show the tourist destinations and culture of Las Segovias, a region constituted by the departments of Matagalpa, Jinotega, Nueva Segovia, Esteli and Madriz. "We are expecting around 50, 000 visitors on both days. We will also have the visit of a group of Central American journalists who will tour the area", he stated.

Furthermore, Barrera explained that INTUR has invested half million cordobas to organize this fair, in which tourists will be able to - when visiting any of the 150 stands of the fair, which will be located in the central park of the city - taste traditional dishes and beverages, shop handicrafts, tobacco, coffee and other agricultural products. In addition, a great number of musical and dance groups will perform, including the renowned Nicaraguan singer Otto de la Rocha.

The First Northern Regional Fair will start at 10:00 am on Friday. However, the official inauguration will be held until 3:00 pm that day. The program of activities includes a cigar exhibition, a show by the Nicaraguan Cantinflas, a concert by Otto de la Rocha and the singer Mario Montenegro, a gastronomic presentation by the chef Nelson Porta and performances by local groups.
