Fourth ecological concert in Catarina

In occasion of the International Biodiversity Day and the approval of the Management Plan of the Apoyo Lagoon Natural Reserve, located between the departments of Masaya and Granada, an ecological concert will be held at the Catarina Viewpoint on Sunday, May 23 at 3:00 pm. On its fourth edition, the event will include the voices of renowned Nicaraguan singers such as Katia Cardenal, Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, Mario Montenegro, Gaby Baca, Moisés Gadea, among others.
According to Alvaro Gutierrez, spokesman of the Association of Municipalities Integrated by the Watershed and Territories of the Apoyo Lagoon in Nicaragua (AMICTLAN), organization dedicated to the conservation of the reserve, this is an event that aims to teach people that the lagoon is not only a landscape in which tourists can get good pictures, but also deserves respect from its visitors. "They also learn that Apoyo is a fragile site and that throwing garbage, cutting down tress and navigating with a motor boat damages the area", he said.
This Sunday, there will also be scientific expositions on the Apoyo Lagoon and its natural resources. In addition, a great number of signatures will be collected to join the network of friends towards the effective implementation of the Management Plan of the reserve, which was approved last January by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA). This, according Guitierrez, seeks to regulate urban activities and the exploitation of reserve.
Guiterrez also said that this ecological concert has become, after three editions, an activity to create awareness in kids and adults.
