Renowned poets and live broadcasts will be part of this new edition.

A series of live broadcasts through social networks and other digital platforms, the participation of renowned international poets and the possible shooting of a documentary by National Geographic (NatGeo), will be some of the new elements of the International Poetry Festival of Granada, which will celebrate its eighth edition starting on February 12.

According to a press release issued by the organizing committee of the festival, those who cannot attend the festival will be able to watch it by using the following digital platforms:

It was also announced that all international guests will get diplomatic treatment by the Nicaraguan Chancellery. Some of the most recognized foreign personalities attending the event will be Derek Walcott (Nobel Prize), Robert Pinsky (Pulitzer Prize nominee) and Homero Aridjis (Xavier Villaurrutia Award). Walcott will also present a poetry book featuring 30 of his poems, which will be translated into Spanish only for this festival.

Another interesting fact is that the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) and the international TV channel National Geographic are discussing the possibility of filming a documentary that will show the artistic atmosphere of the event, as well as the several cultural activities that take place during it. The agreement will be confirmed this week.

The eighth edition of this festival will be dedicated to Carlos Martinez Rivas (1924 - 1998), a Guatemalan poet who died in Nicaragua. The event will also be held in honor of the bicentennial of the renowned Nicaraguan poet Pablo Antonio Cuadra. The scenarios of the poetry festival will be diverse; them majority of them will be located in the city of Granada and other sites of the Pacific Region.

It is worth mentioning that this year's festival will include the presence of 200 agents from the National Police in order to ensure public safety. For more information on dates and locations, go to our Events Calendar.
