On May 1 of this year the Nicaraguan government decided to change the time with one hour, in an attempt to save energy consumption. This temporary time change has now been reversed. Today, Sunday October 1, the time has once again changed and Nicaragua is now in the time zone of GMT-6.

The time shift was generally ill-received by the Nicaraguans who more frequently had to travel in the darkness as they left to their work or school in the morning. Even though the sun will now once again set an hour earlier, the population generally prefers this situation.
