Lent typical meals competition

The preparation of various typical dishes of this time, along with different cultural activities can be seen.

In Nicaragua are diverse traditions during the Holy Week, between them exists the gastronomic traditions. Throughout the Lent, different dishes are elaborated and represent every zone of the country. This Sunday, March 25, the "National Lent Competition of typical meals” will take place in Managua, at Multricentro Las Américas, where 17 representatives of several Nicaragua departments are going to be present.

This is the third consecutive year in which the contest is made. There will be around 51 persons showing their culinary skills. The participants, to come up to this final contest, had to compete in their departments, in which the competition took place since March 1. The final 3 were selected and they will be competing against the other chefs at the big final.

The event begins at 2:00 PM, and from that hour the public will be able to watch all the meal elaboration process. Each participant must prepare one lent typical dish, then it will be judge by recognized Nicaraguan chefs, such as: María Esther López, Nelson Porta, Hazel Cuadra y Silvio Arevalo.

The prizes for the three first places will be C$30,000, C$20,000 and C$10,000. However, according to Karla Hammond, INTUR national promoter coordinator, there will be also awards for the other participants. During the competition there will be many activities like food tasting, courtesy of the Escuela Nacional de Hotelerìa (National School of Hospitality), two dance groups, the marimbas Nicaragua Mía rondalla, among others.
