Week of poetry and culture in Granada between February 16 - 22, 2014.

This Sunday, February 16 starts the 10th International Poetry Festival of Granada in honor to Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario and in commemoration to the centenary of the birth of the poet Joaquin Pasos, by the Central American integration. 118 poets from 63 countries and more than 20 Nicaraguan poets will participate.

The week will be full of poetry readings, workshops, book presentations, round tables, forums and concerts with bands and solo artists such as Carlos and Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy, Norma Elena Gadea, Katia Cardinal and musical groups like Mayagna, Perrozompopo and La Cuneta Son Machin. In addition, there will be a permanent book fair and craft fair. Also, every day there will be a prearranged open mic for those who want to share their poetry.

This year will be open to the public a representative sample of Rubén Darío Archive from the Complutense University of Madrid. Moreover, according to Gloria Gabuardi this year initiates the poetry festival for children that hold close relations to the poetry festival of the Seniors.

"The international festival of poetry of Granada, is arguably the biggest festival in the world, and to make this festival possible in Nicaragua we have necessarily had to count with the support of the Government of Nicaragua, the private enterprise, of friendly Governments and international institutions, and with the support of the media" concluded Gabuardi.

On Wednesday 19 will be held the traditional Poetry Carnival 1200 dancers and activities during their path. The festival activities are available on our events calendar
