    The Meeting point is at the bus terminal in Potosí to start down a flat trail to the volcano. In a 40 minute walk you enter Cosigüina Volcano Reserve through a road full of trees and continue until forest is surrounded. On this journey you will encounter with inclined sections and a few flat areas.

    The last 32 minutes are in an inclined path trail to reach the summit of the volcano from where you can appreciate its beautiful Crater Lake and panoramic ocean views as well as Estero Real, Gulf of Fonseca and areas of El Salvador and Honduras.

    Both on the top of the volcano and among the road you can spot migratory birds, parakeets, parrots and warblers. If the tourist is lucky you can find Pizotes and Iguanas. On the trail you can find different types of trees, such as centenarians matapalo.

    This tour is available all year with the exception of days with thunderstorms.

  • Cosigüina Volcano hiking tour from Leon and Las Peñitas

    The Cosigüina Volcano trekking is an unforgettable adventure. Although it is not a steep hiking (except for some segment), you will have a great experience visiting this dry tropic forest and appreciating the view from the top: the crateric laggon inside the volcano, the Real Estuary and the Fonseca Gulf, where Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras meet.

    This tour begin at 6 AM in your hotel or any meeting point arranged after booking, within the Las Peñitas beach town or Leon city. There we will take a all-terrain vehicle and travel to Punta Cosigüina (2 hours). We will get to Potosi town, from where we will start the trekking (around 3 hours until the top). We will traverse a path among the forest, watching the fauna and flora. At the top, you will have several amazing panoramic views, including: the “Mirador de Tres Países” viewpoint (over the Fonseca Gulf), and the volcanic lagoon inside the Cosigüina crater. Later, we will return to Potosi. The volcano’s high is 859 meters.

    In Potosi, we will stop at a local restaurant to have lunch (included with a drink); the services could be a delicious fish with a beer, but you would choice among several option on the menu. After lunch and a little rest, we will take the road back to your hotel or the meeting point in Leon or Las Peñitas.

  • Cosigüina Volcano trekking

    Departure at 5:30 AM from Leon city in a 4WD to Cosigüina peninsula (the outward journey take 3 hours), starting the hiking around 5:30 AM when day temperature is still cool. Hiking for the trails until the summit, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Fonseca Gulf and the lagoon inside the volcano crater. It take 3 hours to get to the summit and it’s a easy level hike. Return to Leon city after the descent from the Cosigüina.

    Day 1:
    The meeting point will be at the Eco-Camp office in León. From here the tour by motorcycle begins, passing through some villages and roads from the occidental area of Nicaragua, toward the Cosigüina Peninsula. Once there, dinner and camping are prepared in front of the Fonseca Gulf.

    If you travel on the right season, the nesting of sea turtles can be visited at night.

    Day 2:

  • Five Day Volcano Circuit

    Day 1:
    Tourist will be picked up at the stipulated meeting point in León or Managua to later take the minibus and go toward the Cosigüina Volcano. The ascent to the summit will begin. Once at the top, the Lagoon, the Fonseca Gulf and even territory from Honduras and El Salvador can be seen. To end the first day, the tour will continue to the base of the San Cristóbal Volcano, where you will sleep.

    Day 2:
    At 6 AM, the ascent to the San Cristóbal Volcano begins. This is an active volcano and is the highest (1745 masl) in Nicaragua. This is one of the most difficult volcanoes to climb.

    After the descent, the trip to the Telica Volcano begins. You will camp at the volcano crater. At night, if you are lucky, you will be able to see the lava. During the day, the San Cristóbal Volcano can be observed, as well as panoramic views of the volcanic range.

    Day 3:
    In the morning yow will climb down the volcano to later continue toward the San Jacinto village, where hot springs connected to the volcano can be appreciated. Lunch at San Jacinto. Transfer to the Cerro Negro Volcano. Camping in the volcano.

    Day 4:
    After having breakfast, the walk toward Pilas-El Hoyo starts. This is a volcanic complex, formed by many structures, including the Asososca Lagoon. Camping at Asosoca Lagoon.

    Day 5:
    Transfer to the Mombacho Volcano in Granada, to visit its cloud forest. Return to have a barbecue and be transfered to the 'drop off' spot.
