"Herbazales and El Caballito" Trails
Description
The tour starts at the Mirador de Catarina, where the local guide will explain about the creation and features of the volcanic Apoyo Lagoon, also will announce the general recommendations to be taken during the tour.
The trailhead is located about 300 meters from the Catarina Viewpoint. The Caballito y Herbazales trail, is one of the traditional paths of Apoyo Lagoon. The tour begins in a young land and ends in ancient lands of over 90, 000 years; this is also the longest trail wich runs through the tropical dry forest where you can spot a wide variety of trees of different sizes and ages, howler monkeys, birds, among others.
During the tour, you will know the type of volcanic rock that exists in this area and the physical changes experienced by volcanic lands and water sources supplying the people of Catarina, San Juan de Oriente and Niquinohomo.
At the end of the path we will reach the coast of San Juan de Oriente where you will observe the thermal hot waters or grassland, the best evidence of volcanic activity in Apoyo. Finally, before embarking on the way back, we can take a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of the lagoon.
Once back in Catarina, you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at the Mirador.

Cancellations made over than 8 days before the day of arrival will not incur any penalties.
Cancellation Penalties:
Cancellations made with less than 8 days before the day of arrival or in case of no-use of the reserved service, 50% of the total ammount will be charged.
