Description
This tranquil and small lagoon, which is surrounded by palm trees, is located only five minutes away from the town of San Juan del Norte. Despite of its name, its warm waters are not clearly blue. This is an ideal place for a relaxing swim.
A visit to the lagoon is frequently combined with a daytrip to some other attractions in the region, including the ruins of Greytown, located ten minutes from San Juan del Norte, the old dredge and the outlet of the San Juan River in the Caribbean Sea. This could cost US$50 for four people.
Inhabitants from San Juan del Norte like to visit the area during the weekends. So, if you visit this place on such dates, you will see a lot of kids playing in the water with their families.
Be sure to bring sunscreen when visiting the Blue Lagoon.
Getting There
A boat is necessary to visit the Blue Lagoon, because it is located at the other side of the Indio River than San Juan del Norte.
