Description
The National Palace is one of the most impressive buildings in Nicaragua. It was built by President Juan Bautista Sacasa in 1935 and it houses lots of history.
For more than 50 years, the National Palace was used as governmental office. During the revolution, the building was taken by the Sandinistas and nowadays, the building serves several purposes. It houses the National Archive, the National Library, as well as the National Museum.
The National Museum is open to the public, and it’s surely worth visit. Not only is it fascinating to walk around in this huge building, it is also an interesting museum by itself that offers paintings, Pre-Columbian statuettes, ceramics, and more. There is a ‘National History’ room as well as a room with the National Symbols.
The entrance fee in 2017 is:
- US$5 for adults foreigners.
- US$1 for kids foreigners.
- C$50 for Nicaraguan adults.
- C$25 for Nicaraguans students with ID.
- C$10 for Nicaraguan childrens.
A guided tour is included in the price as well, which takes about half an hour.
Getting There
The National Palace is located at the Plaza de la Revolución, close to Lake Managua.
