This very special salamander has been found only at one place in the world: at the Mombacho Volcano. Due to its specific ecosystem the Mombacho has provided a unique site for this animal to evolve, and its Scientific Name therefore also includes a reference to the volcano.
Habitat
To see this animal, the Mombacho Volcano is the only place to go to. The salamander is not frequently spotted so do not expect to see one during a regular daytrip visit. With more effort and some luck this unique animal can be seen during a night tour which is possible by staying at the lodge on top of the volcano.
