Description
Bill straight. Male green above with small white spot behind eye: gorget bright ruby red, remaining underparts mostly white washed with grayish on sides and flanks; tail black, forked. Female lacks gorget, is green above with small white spot behind eye; whitish below with buffy flanks; tail unforked, outer feathers tipped white.
Habits and Behavior
In its winter quarters favors light (often scrubby) woodland, borders, and semiopen areas.
