Very long pointed tail. Bare facial skin usually dull pink (sometimes whitish) with lines of small black feathers; bill black, tip grayer. Mostly light yellowish green; forehead red; lower back, rump, and under tail-coverts pale blue; tail (from above) basally red, tips and outer feathers blue; flight feathers (from above) mostly blue. From below wings and tail olive yellow.
Habits and Behavior
Similar to other large macaws. Usually in pairs or small groups of up to four to eight birds, very rarely more. Has extremely loud, far-carrying raucous calls. Notably unwary; feeding birds often allow a remarkably close approach.
