A large parrot with a mainly dark-gray bill. Mostly bright green with yellow band across hindneck and nape (variable in width); large red speculum on secondaries (visible mostly in flight). Nominate auropalliata (most of range) has no red on bend of wing, but this is present in the Mosquita region of northwestern Nicaragua.
Habits and Behavior
Yellow-naped's commonest call is a rich throaty korrow or karrow, lacking the harsh raucous quality of many other amazons.
