Description

Glossy greenish to steel blue above (greener in fresh plumage, becoming bluer with wear) with narrow white supraloral stripe and white rump; immaculate white below. Immature more grayish above except for white rump, tinged with brownish on sides of chest.

Habits and Behavior

Usually seen in small groups skimming low over the water of lakes, ponds, rivers, and in mangroves, sometimes over damp fields and meadows, even over salt waterjust beyond the shoreline. Perches low on snags and dead branches. Its call is a dzreet, dzreet often given in flight.
