Visitors can spend one or several days in this tranquil community. After arriving the guests will receive an explanation about the rural cooperative (US$3 per person) and they will receive a tour through the community. Then, visitors can undertake activities like a hike at the bordering mountains (which have a height of up to 900 meters) to enjoy the views, the natural setting, and the beautiful streams that descend from the hilltops. A guide from the community will accompany the group (among US$15 and US$20 for a group of up to 7 people). It is also possible to see some of the remains of an underground gold mine and to learn more about the history of this site.
Another attraction of La Pita is that visitors can learn more about the activities of the women in this community. These women collectively create paper from organic waste and subtracts from local plants. For this tour there is a small fee (US$1 per person). Guests can also learn more about other agricultural projects that are being developed at the cooperative.
Visitors can stay in semi-private rooms in the houses of inhabitants of the community for a price among US$10 and US$15 (per person/per day). Food can also be served for rates between US$3 or US$5 per plate. This is a great opportunity to be in direct contact with the families and experience their daily routine. Some of the activities that can be undertaken along with the families are harvesting coffee, regulating the shade, learning more about the production of organic coffee, among other activities.
Within the community it is also possible to participate in a cooking class to prepare Nicaraguan traditional dishes (among US$45 and US$100 per group), arrange cultural presentations, a workshop on natural medicines (among US$45 and US$100 per group) and visits to a pool (US$2 per person).
The La Pita community is located 17 kilometers from the city of Matagalpa and 3 kilometers from San Ramón. Public transportation does not reach this area, so getting here is only possible in a 4WD car or by foot. To organize activities in the community visitors should contact UCA San Ramón at least 24 hours in advance (see the contact information to the left).
