Description
Musicians, painters, artisans and dancers of all ages gather at the "Leonel Rugama House of Culture" so they can learn, teach and share with nationals and foreigners the best of the Nicaraguan art, specially the one from the Northern side of the country.
Founded in 1979, the name of this center is a homage to Leonel Rugama, a young poet from Esteli and member of the FSLN guerrilla who died fighting against the Somoza's dictatorship. His exclamation "¡Que se rinda tu madre!" became quite famous in the national history, as well as his poem entitled "La Tierra es un satélite de la Luna" (The Earth is a satellite of the Moon).
Each space of this cultural center is used for free painting and craft classes. Music lessons, on the other hand, are taught for a small monthly fee. The center is also the headquarters of several concerts, art exhibitions, dance performances and a cultural month in honor of the renowned national poet Rubén Darío.
