Description

Completely enclosed by Lake Nicaragua, Ometepe offers many possibilities for water sports. There are many beautiful, deserted beaches on the island, providing great spots for swimming and sunbathing. Among the most famous are Playa Santo Domingo at the center of the island, facing the north, and Charco Verde on the opposite side facing the main land to the South.

The upper part of the island is facing the open water of Lake Nicaragua and the waves at this side are consequently fairly high. Using body boards is also an option. Swimming is possible just as well as on the bottom part, where there are generally no real waves.

Another sport you can practice in the waters around Ometepe is kayaking. You can explore the coast while paddling over the water. If you have a fishing rod, you can even do some fishing from your kayak.

Other options include hiring a boat to go a little further out on the lake. You can also do fishing from those bigger boats.
