I purchased a cup and two bowls in Granada in 2016 that were made in the Ducuale Shop in Condega. I drink and eat from them everyday. I wish I had plates and more cups and bowls for the family. They are all simple brown/red clay with a wave pattern on them. If it could be arranged I would buy some more.

Description

The Ducuale Grande crafts workshop is a community center. Thirteen women work here, creating crafts in the same style and using the same materials as the old indigenous inhabitants of the region.

Visitors can observe the complete production process. This starts with the elaboration of mud and clay, followed by the formation of the piece. The next step is to bake the material in an oven, and after that it is cleaned and finally the designs are finished with a chisel and made to shine.

The workshop also includes an exposition area where visitors can see some finished work and buy crafts. These pieces are available in all sizes and shapes. Some are just for decoration, but there are also others for domestic use like cups, vases, or plates.

Getting There

The community of Ducualy Grande is located 3 kilometers from Condega (Condega: 55 kilometers from Estelí). A dirt road connects the area to the Pan American highway.
