Matagalpa: International Marathon in October

The “Ultra marathon Q50 Finca Las Nubes”, an international event which connects sports and tourism, is scheduled to take place in October of this year in the mountainous region of Matagalpa, a department in the north of Nicaragua.The event is organized by the organization Q50 Races, which had great success in December (2006) with the ultra marathon Q50 Patagonia in Argentina, a competition in which 90 national and international athletes from all over the world participated, as informed in the national press by César Torres, director of the event.
In Nicaragua, the marathon starts at 6:00 in the morning on Sunday, October 7, 2007. The route begins in the city of Matagalpa, is 80 kilometers long and will finish at the coffee farm “Finca Las Nubes”, in the Matiguás municipality.
According to the invitation sent by Q50 Races to all national and international athletes, participants will be able to register from April 1 until the September 15, 2007. The registration can be made online on the website, (currently under construction) or in the offices of Budget Rent-a-Car Nicaragua.
The available categories are the Individual (80 kilometers) male and female and the Relay (two for 40 kilometers) as a separate category. The prizes for the finalists include cash and medals, and there will be t-shirts of the event for all participants.
The organizers announced that the proceedings from the athletes' participation fees will be donated to the Medical Centre of the rural community El Jobo, in the municipality of Matiguás.
