Start of the professional Baseball League

The fourth edition of the Nicaraguan Professional Baseball League (LNBP) 2007-2008, will be inaugurated today at 4:45 PM in the national stadium “Dennis Martínez”. The inauguration will consist of a ceremony of recognition and with a game between the Los Indios del Bóer and Los Leones teams.The LNBP will start at the end of October, and take place during the months of November and December, before ending in January. The following teams are participating this year: Las Fieras del San Fernando from Masaya, Los Tigres from Chinandega, Los Leones from León, and los Indios del Bóer from Managua, who are defending their title.
Besides the national star players that originate from different parts of the country, the teams have been strengthened by professional players from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.
This year’s league is dedicated to Juan Manuel Meléndez (1908-1985), also known as El Chino (the Chinese), a national baseball legend who stood out in both national and international baseball leagues for his great skills as pitcher.
