ViaNica.com | Dec 4, 2007

Starting at 6 P.M. on Friday, December 7, the traditional and massive celebrations of “La Gritería” will take place in Nicaragua. The event has religious origins and will include thousands of people filling the streets in all cities and towns in the country.

This national tradition lasts for several days and is very colorful, especially in the bigger cities in the country. It involves creativity for the decoration of the alter for Virgin Mary, as well as chanting and fireworks.

La Gritería takes place on a national level, as well as in foreign cities with a large Nicaraguan presence. Besides these traditional celebrations, December hosts other interesting regional celebrations. To read more about these, please refer to the special on December Celebrations in Nicaragua.
