“La espera terminó” (The waiting has ended), is the title chosen by the national organizers for the concert of great Cuban singer and songwriter Silvio Rodríguez. Rodríguez will perform in Managua upcoming Sunday, March 2, 25 years after his last concert in the country. The Dúo Guardabarranco is the national counterpart invited to the event; they will open the night with their own songs. The duo, formed by siblings Salvador y Katia Cardenal, are composers of the same type of music and friends of Silvio Rodríguez. The young Nicaraguan singer and songwriter Moisés Gadea and Cuban Vicente Feliú will also participate.
According to Katia Cardenal, Silvio is a very simple and timid person, a domestic man who doesn’t like flying or crowds of people, despite his international fame as an artist. Katia also said that Silvio is an artist of constant creations, calling on the public to not only focus on his classic songs, but to also appreciate the composer’s newer creations.
The concert will take place in the Events Center of Pharaos Casino, located at km. 5 of Carretera a Masaya. Prices for entry are as follows: VIP, US$50; Preferential, C$350; General, C$180 and General, C$140. The locale will be open to the public from 4 PM onwards on Sunday, even though the concert will not start till 7:30 PM. Parking will be possible at Colegio Teresiano, for C$20.
Cristian Chavarría, from Dolphin Producciones, the national producer who brings the Cuban artist to the country, said that the visit of Silvio to Nicaragua, after so many years of absence from the national scene is a “nice coincidence”, which finally ends the long waiting of many Nicaraguan fans.
The last concert of the artist in Nicaragua took place on March 1, 1983. Silvio gave a concert on the Plaza de la Revolución, where approximately 50,000 people congregated together, according to figures presented during the conference.
