National meeting of Theatrical Actors and Directors

The spokesperson of the INC, Emilio Zambrana, explained that the aim of the meeting is to coordinate the different ways in which the institute can help the producers of theater in the country. Several scopes were presented, amongst which the creation of legislation that will create facilities for theatrists and help them with their work. “Artists come here (to the INC) and they sign up quickly, but when going to the DGI (Dirección General de Impuestos), the transactions are slower and more complicated, explained Zambrana.
President of the INC, Julio Morales, explained that a national theater agenda is to be made, to help and coordinate festivals, independent performances, etc. The institute also launched an initiative to create a National Theater Company, to conglomerate all other companies. “We are looking for ways to help and promote stimulation of theater quality”, said Morales.
The artists expressed their points of view, talked about their realities, and, at times, had fierce discussions on certain issues.
“The meeting was very positive, in my opinion, and, as Luis Morales said, it gave an x-ray of how stricken the guild is” commented Zoa Meza, member of the Teatro de Títeres Guachipilín and president of NICASITEJ (Asociación Internacional de Teatro para la Infancia y la Juventud capítulo Nicaragua).
Zoa said that the creation of certain commissions was quite productive, as was the help expressed by the institute for already existing initiatives, yet he also pointed out that some of the proposals were not as sensible, such as the creation of the National Company, which would monopolize the different arrangements, in his opinion.
Luis Morales declared that the INC would like to meet with other guilds, such as that of dance, music, and others, with the aim of starting to improve the management of help, and to develop culture.
