Ometepe island is moving foward in the Natural World Wonders contest

Róger Solórzano CanalesOmetepe Island, situated in Lake Nicaragua, classified in the second phase of the international New Seven Wonders of the World contest and is now one of the 77 nominated sites. All them are being considered by a jury of experts that will chose and announce, by the end of July, the last 28 finalists who will pass to the final phase.
Ometepe was well positioned during the recently concluded global voting process. Classified under the category of "islands", Ometepe always was one of top places, and in a few months moved from the eleventh spot to the second one, during the second voting period, which ended on July 7.
According to information given by the New 7Wonders organization, who is organizing the event, the announcement of the 28 finalists will be held on Tuesday, July 21, seven minutes after noon (Swiss hour) at the central office of the organization, situated in Zurich. Therefore, the announcement will be made at 5:07 am, local time.
