A masive arrival of turtles started at Playa La Flor

A new massive arrival of sea turtles started yesterday, Wednesday, December 9 at La Flor Wildlife Reserve, situated in the department of Rivas. It will last until Sunday 13 and according to Mario Rodríguez, delegate of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA), between 40, 000 and 50, 000 turtles are expected during this occasion.

The delegate explained 5, 200 sea turtles arrived yesterday night and today they expect about 15, 000. Rodríguez said that a team of 120 people, constituted by members of the Nicaraguan army and the national police, as well as young environmentalists, foreigners, community members and others are giving the necessary protection to the turtles and their eggs.

Interested people on witnessing this natural happening can visit the wildlife reserve. The entrance costs C$100 for Nicaraguan adults and C$50 for local kids and C$200 for foreigner adults and C$100 for their kids.
