A boxing evening in honor of the deceased Alexis Argüello, three times world champion boxer and mayor of Managua, will be held tomorrow, Saturday, December 19, at Dennis Martínez national stadium, according to information given during a press conference to the local media by Ricardo Rizo and Enrique Armas, organizers of the event. The entrance of the activity will be completely for free and will start at 5:00 pm. Twenty four national and international boxers will participate in the event, distributed in 12 boxing fights.

Rizo, who is an international boxing promoter, said that the idea of the event came out of a series of talks he had with Argüello before he died. That is why the promoter and Enrique Armas, Secretary of the City Council of Managua, agreed to organize the boxing evening Argüello had in mind.

The event will start with a fight between the Nicaraguans Carla Estrada and Sochielt Barquero, who will make their debut. However, the most important boxing fight will be the one between the Colombian César Canchila and the Philippine Johnriel Casemiro. They will fight for the 108 pounds world title of the World Boxing Organization (OMB). Another important fight will be the one between the Nicaraguan Carlos "Chocorroncito" Buitrago and the Mexican Edgard "Power" Jiménez.

A great number of internationally renowned boxers had already arrived in the country to watch the fights. Some of them are the Puerto Rican Tito Trinidad, the Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera, the Panamanian Ernesto Marcel, the North American Shannon Briggs and others. It is worth to mention that the weighing of the boxers will take place at Salvador Allende Port, in Managua, today after 1:00 pm. For further information go to our Events Calendar.
