According to information given by Sobeida Sánchez, Technical Advisor of the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR), the festival has been held since 2002 to promote and continue the actions that ensure the preservation of the El Castillo-San Juan-La Selva Biological Corridor, located between Southeast Nicaragua and Northern Costa Rica. Furthermore, the festival aims to strengthen the bonds between peasant communities, Non Governmental Organizations, governments citizens of both nations, who will be able to learn about the beauty, hospitality, culture and traditions of the community of Buena Vista.

The slogan of the eight edition is "Celebrating the diversity of our people!". The information given by Sánchez states that this festival is a space of recreation, dialogue and exchange of ideas between Nicaraguans and Costa Ricans, who forget the political issues concerning the San Juan River, natural border of both nations. Also, the event is the ideal occasion to publicly recognize th e work of those who take care of the Macaw´s nests.

The program of activities of the festival has a great number of cultural performances (dance, singing, poetry, theater, music, parades, etc). There will also be a Communitarian Rural Tourism Forum, in addition to photo, handicrafts, paintings, traditional food and drinks presentations and much more.
