Second Regional Tourism Fair

The inhabitants of the city of Rivas, located in the department of the same name, will have two reasons to celebrate during this weekend. On Friday, May 28 and Saturday 29, the central park of the city will be the headquarters of the Second Tourism Regional Fair. Also, since yesterday, May 24, the 290th anniversary of the nomination of Rivas as a city is also being celebrated.

During a press conference given to the local media on Friday, May 29, Mayra Salinas, Vice-President of the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR), explained that this is the second fair that the institution organizes along with municipal governments, tourism entrepreneurs and police, among others, in order to promote nationally and internationally the cuisine, culture and different destinations of the country. "Once we finish the six regional fairs we have scheduled, in addition to the National Fair of Tourism, we will have covered all the Nicaraguan tourism destinations," she assured.

This time, the departments of Masaya, Granada, Carazo and Rivas will be the expositors of their attractions. The event will include a wide program of activities, focused on the folkloric dances of the four departments. Also, the route of the general Augusto C. Sandino will be included and a great number of conferences about strategies to promote the communitarian and sustainable tourism will also be held. "We are working on raising awareness among visitors about the importance of tourism as a tool to generate profits and poverty eradication, " said Salinas.

Wilfredo López, governor of Rivas, also explained that since yesterday, May 24, a week of celebrations related to the 290th anniversary of the nomination of Rivas as a city. "We want to thank the other governors and INTUR for celebrating the regional fair in our city, this will make our anniversary more important," he emphasize.
