First Jazz International Festival Granada 2011

The colonial city of Granada will have its first Jazz festival. European and Latin American artists will perform this time.

Different cultural spaces will become the scenarios of the First International Festival Granada 2011, an encounter that will include the participation of German, Chilean, Colombian, Panamanian, Costa Rican, Dominican, Russian, Austrian and Nicaraguan artists. The event, which aims to become an annual event, will begin its performances on Thursday, October 20th, in this colonial city. According to a press release provided by Julio Vasquez, artistic director of the festival, the main goal is to promote universal musical culture. Therefore, all the presentations will have no cost. Another goal is that the event becomes an attractive element of the city of Granada.

According to the program of activities, the opening ceremony will be held on Thursday at Hotel Granada (8:00 pm), with a presentation by the vibraphonist Ella Ponce (Chile- Panama) and the guitarist Julio Vasquez (Nicaragua). The next day, there will be a concert at Calle La Calzada in charge of Mario Sacasa, Ramay Band and Jazz Ta (Nicaragua). Enrique Fernandez (Dominican Republic / USA) and Dommie Drodowski (Germany) will also perform that day. Finally, the closing concert will be held at Casa de los Tres Mundos, on Saturday, October 21 (7:00 pm).

Although the main events will take place at the sites listed above, there will also be concerts in the Central Park of Granada, the former Railway Station and the San Francisco Convent. This year, the event will feature the participation of Ella Ponce (Chile - Panama), a renowned vibraphonist who has worked many times for the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama, the Andes Big Band Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble Percussion at the University of Chile.
