ViaNica launches registration system for Managua 5K Running Race

Paul Hoekman | Dec 1, 2011

ViaNica.com created an online registration system where participants can sign of for the upcoming Desafío 5K.

ViaNica.com, in alliance with Managua Runners, has created Nicaragua's first online registration system for an upcoming running event that will be held in Managua on Sunday, December 18. Using the same technology as our online Reservation System, visitors will be able to register in a matter of minutes.

The race will feature several running options. The most popular track will be the 5km route, although this year's edition will also include a new 10km option (only for experienced runners). There will also be a 1 Km run for children (6 -12 years), and a track for people using wheelchairs.

The registration fee for each participant is US$4.50, and for children only US$2.25. Signing up will be as easy as filling out the name(s) of the participant(s) and providing credit card information. The system will automatically assign a registration number to each participant, which can be picked up on set dates at Galerías Santo Domingo.

This way, ViaNica.com will provide a way to streamline and automate the more and more time consuming regular registration process.

About the organizers

Managua Runners, a club set up by local enthusiasts to promote amateur track running, has been organizing more and more popular running events in Managua for over a year. Their success is a clear indicator of the interest among people living in Managua (and even people from other cities) to participate in these types of sport events.

Compared to other countries, however, there are few organizations or clubs for track running (and other amateur sport activities), and often the Nicaraguan infrastructure is less than accommodating. The popularity of events like the DESAFIO 5K (the track race organized by Managua Runners) demonstrates that there is a great interest from the population, though.

It is worth mentioning that the funds raised with the inscriptions of the event will be donated to Hogar San Antonio, a home for elderly people located in the Department of Masaya. The initiative is promoted by the Nicaraguan NGO called Sumando Voluntades.

If you will be in Nicaragua this December, be sure not to miss this opportunity!
