Independence celebrations in Nicaragua

In Nicaragua and in the neighboring Central American countries September is the month of the independence celebrations. Starting the first of the month, celebrative and commemorative events will take place for two weeks.The climax of these celebrations takes place on September 14 and 15 when the historical, victorious battle at San Jacinto was fought. The national army defeated North American invaders on September 14 in 1856. The declaration of independence of the Central American colonies from Spain took place on September 15 in 1821.
