Earthship Pitahaya Festival 2012 in El Carizal

The event gathered the local community, a variety of artists and foreigner residents in the municipality of San Juan del Sur.
The Earthship Pitahaya Festival, an ecological initiative that invests its funds in community projects, celebrated its fourth edition this year. As part of the event, which was held on Saturday, February 11, a series of concerts in charge of local and foreign artists were held, in addition to a variety of activities for kids and local food sales, all of this in the community of El Carizal, located in the municipality of San Juan del Sur.
According to the official website of the event, the Third Annual Quiksilver Carizal Surf Competition also took place in Playa Hermosa Beach (San Juan del Sur). National and international surfers were part of this sports contest, competing in three categories: Open, Longboard and Ladies. At 8:00 pm, attendees could enjoy the music of local artist at Villas de Palermo Hotel.
The online version of Del Sur News (a weekly local newspaper) informed that the Costa Rican groups Octopi (reggae rock) and 424 performed during the event, as well as Don Bigote, Los Pobrecitos, Sam Furguson, the CosMuSart collective (multimedia show) and other DJs such as Tamara Montenegro (Nicaragua).
The festival was held at Casa Llanta, located in the comunity of El Carizal (6 Km South of San Juan del Sur). The entrance fee was US$5 per person and included total access to all the activities previously mentioned.
According to the festival's website, all funds collected with this event will be donated to the Casa Llanta Foundation, so that it can promote its projects, which are mostly aimed at education and environmental awareness.
