Massive cleaning and ecological concert in the coast of Managua Lake in celebration of Earth Day.

Once a year, every April the 22nd, in many countries it´s celebrated the Earth Day with activities to preserve the environment. In Nicaragua, for this day the organization Rock Nica Ecológico (Ecological Nicaraguan Rock) and the Movimiento de Jóvenes Ambientalistas "Guardabarranco"(“Guardabarranco” Young Environmentalists’ movement) have prepared a working day of cleaning, sensitization, and concerts at the banks of the Xolotlan Lake or Managua Lake.

The event will be on the same Sunday April the 22nd. It´s programmed to begin at 2:00 pm, and the meeting spot will be in front of the Ruben Dario National Theater. The working day consists in performing a recollection of solid rubbish on the banks of the lake. The participants will be divided in groups and each one will be given a zone that will have to cover.

According to Dánitza Baca, member of the organizers group, “The idea of cleaning on the lake is born of the necessity that we the population of Managua have, to improve our relationship with the Xolotlán”. The needed materials for the recollection will be provided, such as: bags, gloves, blades and appropriate skewers for the rubbish found at the site, said Baca.

Parallel to the recollection, music of the Ecological Rumba (“Rumba Ecológica”) conformed by six national percussionists, will be played. In addition they will count with the presence of jugglers, ecological artisans, the “Leonel Rugama Movement Comparsa”, a Break Dance group, among others. There will also be a children's corner where crafts will be made with the kids.

At the end of the cleaning working day, there will be a ceremony of respect to the water, in which they will ask the lake for forgiveness for the over 80 years that it has been receiving all the rubbish of Managua. Then an ecological walk to the “Salvador Allende Port” (Puerto Salvador Allende) will begin, which is located approximately 300 meters away from the National Theater. In this place the ecological concert will be performed, which will be opened by the band “Furgoneta Gitana” (Gypsy wagon), followed by the group “Nemi Pipali”, and closes with the “Espiral” band.

The participation in the working day and concert is completely free, and all the people who want to help to preserve the environment and the Xolotlán can participate. It is only needed to bring a hat, a re-usable bottle of water, and go to the meeting spot where the organizers will be dividing the attendees in different groups, to cover the zones that are going to be cleaned; besides they will provide water to refill the containers of the participants.
