Róger Solórzano Canales | Oct 19, 2012
Creations of different manifestations of design will be exhibited and offered by the artists themselves.
For two consecutive days, Nicaraguan artists of different branches of the design presented to the public their creations at the exhibition "Design Nicaragua", which will feature a fashion show and expo-sales booths. The fair, which has its first edition this year, will be held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd at the Crown Plaza Convention Center in Managua, is organized by the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute (INTUR) and the leading national fashion designer Shantall Lacayo.
The free entrance event will be held in two joint areas. On the first, 15 fashion designers will take the runway at different times to show their proposals; some of them are new designers (from Managua and cities like Bluefields, and San Juan del Sur) and others have more experience like Vicente Castellón and Marynes Argüello.
On the second area 25 artists will display and offer their work, in the fields of architecture, gardening, jewelry, lighting, art, photography, shoes, furniture, fixtures and graphic design. Also, there will be live performance of graffiti and mural artists.
Shantall Lacayo expressed great expectation about the show. She said that after the opening call in early July, 80 candidates were enrolled in the various categories. The jury, composed of staff from her company and INTUR, must choose 35 finalists based on criteria of quality, creativity and the amount of creations proposed.
The event was created with the aim of providing a platform for national and international artists to design the country, said Julio Videa, director of Marketing at INTUR. Besides runoff and contact with the public, said the official, international media will be present and projecting the activity.
Nicaragua Design starts at 2:00 pm on Saturday 20th, with an opening ceremony followed by opening runway and stands. On Sunday the activity will continue from 10:00 a.m. and it will close at 2p.m. with runways.
