Tenth Granada International Poetry Festival is announced

The event will be held February 16-22 of 2014, with the participation of 157 poets from more than 60 countries.
“¡Torres de Dios!¡Poetas!¡Pararrayos celestes...”, is the slogan of the 10th edition of the Granada International Poetry Festival, which details were announced today at a press conference. Around 122 poets from different countries around the world, and 35 nicaraguan poets will participate from February 16th to the 22nd of 2014 at the festival, that represent one of the most emblematic cultural proposal having a wide influence in the world.
Just like in the past editions, the festival will feature various activities in Granada and other places for over a week, in which there will be discussions, readings, lectures, concerts, open mic sessions and a rich exchange among participants, and between the public. Also, there will be a book fair, craft fair and carnival parades and colorful folkloric groups from all over the country, which will perform around the central streets of Granada next to "poetamóvil", where guest poets will read in various languages.
The Festivla will have concerts of nicaraguan musicians and well known bands, like the famous Hernaldo Zúniga, Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, Camerata Bach, Perrozompopo and La Cuneta Son Machín, said Gloria Gabuardi, secretary of the festival. A new activity, a Chilndrens’s Poetry Festival will be developed and also an open mic session for Elder Poets from CLAM.
Tribute to Ruben Dario
The phrase that constitute the slogan is the title of the first strophe of a famous poem by written by Rubén Darío (1867-1916), whose wide influence in the world of the spanish literature in South and Central America, and Spain earned him the title of one of the founders of modernism. Dario is the honoree of the festival of this year, as it was released after the conclusion of the festival this year.
Among the activities, there will be a photography exposition of the poet, a presentation of his books, a lecture entitled "Transatlantic Darío" and a panel discussion named "Ruben Dario’s Validy in XXI century".
León de la Torre, Spain's ambassador and honorary president of the festival, said that the tribute will also include a digital sample of 150 Dario documents that are part of the collection of 5000 documents from the Spanish stage of Darius, which were donated by his wife at the Complutense University of Madrid.
They ask for suppport
Francisco de Asis Fernandez, founding president of the festival, called on national authorities, private companies, chambers of commerce, embassies and the public in general to support the development of this event, whose logistics involves the use of a lot of resources and that have not been completed despite sponsorship they have had from companies and embassies.
"We invite everyone to make a national and international campaing to save the festival, by sending a contribution to the account number 101 201 390 at Bancentro" said Fernandez.
