National elections will take place this Sunday, November 5, when Nicaraguans will elect a new president and congressmen for the coming 5-year period. Although four strong political parties are campaigning exuberantly, the situation in the country has remained calm.Starting tomorrow (November 2), a period of electoral silence will prevail until the elections, marking the end of a 75-day propaganda bombardment. A temporary ban on alcohol consumption in bars, restaurants, and other public places will start on Saturday, November 4 (at midnight, between Friday and Saturday).
The National Police has implemented a plan to maintain control during the elections. The elections are expected to take place in a calm fashion. The five political parties involved in the coming elections include the Movimiento de Renovación Sandinista (MRS), the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), the Alianza Liberal Nicaragüense (ALN), the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC) and the Alternativa por el Cambio (AC).
