The colorful 'Baila de las Negras' dance, which takes place in Masaya every year as part of the San Jerónimo celebrations, will be held in this folkloric city on Sunday, November 19, starting at around 9 AM. The participants will leave from the San Jerónimo church and pass the principal streets of Masaya until around 10 PM.The Baile de las Negras, or 'dance of the black', has an ancient origin and it consists of various dance couple (all male) dressed with colorful, feminine and masculine colonial-style costumes and masks, dancing the marimba and covering almost all of the town. A large group of spectators of friends, family, and other people interested in this event will watch their performance.
The dance takes place at the second-last Sunday of November, and it will be performed this year by the group 'Sones de mi Tierra'. This group has over a decade of artistic experience.
