Caroline: Spent 2 nights; first night on the Maderas side of the island. The restaurant, about a year old, was nice and had a good selection, but seeing that we were visiting during a low-tourist season (we were the first tourists in about 3 weeks), not a lot of the food on the menu was available, but we got upgraded to a cabaña for the same price we were going to pay for a double room. It was a lovely cabaña, but you could tell it had been a while since people had stayed: the floors had some dead bugs and some of the outlets did not work for charging electronics (there is VERY limited cell phone service and no internet). We went to the San Ramón cascada with the guide, Anhuar, and that was the highlight of the trip; and the hotel is located right on the beach. I would recommend this hotel.

Clayton Noel: Spent 4 nights. Fantastic hotel - was my first time at Rancho Merida, The restaurant and cabins are beautiful attractions. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful - including staff making an early start to prepare breakfast and packed lunches to allow an early start for the volcano climb. Food was great. The hotel is conveniently located for hiking to the waterfalls and for climbing the Maderas volcano. My cabin was fantastic and with rocking chairs on the porch, it provided a relaxing atmosphere to sit and read or enjoy the beautiful mornings and evenings. Highly recommend.
