Description
Los Norteños is a rural tourism initiative located in Nandaime farms that offer tours and accommodations in order to meet rural life in Nicaragua. The community has 109 acres and 10 families. During the stay you will visit different farms, learn how to make tortillas and Nicaraguan food. It is also possible to light bonfires in regulated areas and participate in production processes of crops between June and November.
The guest can be accommodated in hammocks or in one of the five bedrooms available in houses of the families of the community. They can be equipped with mosquito nets, solar power panel and shared ecological toilets. The shower is done collectively at the dam, river or in the "Ojo de agua" (a natural pool). If a guest has trouble getting there, water will be carried to the house.
The food has a price between U$3 and U$4.50, a pastry snack with a natural juice is U$1.50.
In this place you can find farm animals and wild animals such as howler monkeys, orioles, grouse, owls, guardabarrancos, cucancillos, parrots, parakeets and others. In addition, there are medicinal and ornamental plants.
Los Norteños are a group of families from the northern region of Nicaragua, who started reforesting the damaged forest to recover the cool climate of the area from which they came and began to understand the importance of their work when they found out new species of forest animals getting into the community and they also noticed how the water level have increased over the last years. Then they were organized with Agricultural Coopeatives Union to start exploiting their land, make tours and offer accommodation for tourists.
