This is a small rural municipality commonly known as Cinco Pinos. Its territory has several elevations, in addition to small valleys, where one can find waterholes and small pine forests. The urban area is the town of Cinco Pinos, which gets hectic during the festivities in honor of San Caralampio (February 9th-11th). The municipality is on the border with Honduras.

You get to Cinco Pinos by taking a paved road that starts at the city of Somotillo. There is also a connection between this city and the town, made by a local bus that travels to the city of Chinandega. It is also possible to use the public transportation traveling to San Pedro del Norte and San Francisco del Norte.
